Funeral Expenses – Viewing and Visitation
All funeral homes will provide family and friends the opportunity to see their loved one during a viewing or visitation before final disposition. The body may or may not be embalmed. Often the visitation is scheduled for a 3-4 hour period. The funeral home will set up the viewing and often a reception area with displays of funeral flowers, other funeral arrangements, and/or pictures provided by the family and friends. The funeral home staff will supervise the viewing and reception. Often funeral homes will charge more for viewings on the weekends, and these additional funeral costs can sometimes twice the weekday fee. Visitation fees range from $150 to $1,175.
The National Funeral Director’s Association’s 2006 survey found that the average visitation fee for facilities and staff was $406.
